Academic spin-offs make up just 7% of Dutch startups, yet in 2025 they raised more than a fifth of all venture capital. Investors clearly know where to find them. Drawing on the Academic Venture Monitor, Techleap's national dataset of more than 1,000 spin-offs founded since 2010, this report measures the ecosystem on three levers: volume, quality and speed. Together, they point to a fourfold increase in impact. For researchers, universities, investors and policymakers, this is the baseline for turning more Dutch science into companies that scale.
