Future of Compute

The Netherlands is a global compute leader — ASML, NXP, IMEC. Techleap exists to make sure that lead doesn’t slip.

Dutch Future of Compute startups already capture nearly a third of Europe’s compute funding - a position built on ASML, NXP, and proximity to IMEC. But that lead isn’t locked in. Fewer new compute startups are getting off the ground, and the founders who do are hitting walls a generalist accelerator can’t help with: funding gaps at Series B/C, limited fab access, and talent shortages.

At the same time, the EU and Dutch government are actively rewriting compute policy — the Chips Act, the National Technology Strategy - while the US, China, and Taiwan race ahead. The next couple of years will decide whether the Netherlands stays a serious player in compute, or falls behind. Techleap exists to make sure it’s the former.

The opportunity

Computing hardware and infrastructure - semiconductors, photonics, quantum — sit at the centre of both the AI wave and Europe’s push for technological sovereignty. It’s an area of longstanding Dutch strength, anchored by ASML, NXP, and proximity to IMEC.

The goal: keep the Netherlands the most credible place in Europe to build the next generation of compute companies, not just host the last one.
